The Bumpy Road
A while back I had a dream that I was a front seat passenger in a car that had no visible driver. I had no idea where I was headed but the car was making all the necessary stops and perfectly navigating around the curves. As I would look at the empty driver’s seat, I was terrified, but when I closed my eyes and focused on Jesus, I would feel complete peace. At one point, at a rapid rate of speed, we approached a roadblock with flashing lights ahead and I thought, this is it, it’s all over now! The car continued to stay on course and maneuvered beautifully around every obstacle. Every time I opened my eyes, fear would try to grip me, but as I prayed, billows of perfect peace flowed over me.
The more time I spent focusing on Jesus the less fear I felt when looking at the apparent circumstances. Though it appeared that my life was out of control and I was facing certain destruction, God had me. He was in complete control! I could have opened the door and bailed at any time, but the realization that I was exactly where I was supposed to be, and He was leading me to where He wanted me to go, was both calming and exhilarating.
As I awakened, I recognized the potential for a life lesson. Life is tricky, there are so many times that we feel that our we are spinning out of control, and we are going to crash and burn at any moment. When fear and the circumstances maintain our attention, we are taking the outcome into our own hands, but as we spend time desperately pursuing Jesus and trusting that He is in control, perfect peace will flood the areas that fear, and insecurity once occupied.
When the reigns or in this case, the steering wheel to our lives is given to Him, we can trust that He will guide us through the difficulties and lead us to safety. The course may not always be smooth but there are lessons to learn on the bumpy roads. Yes, trials are inevitable, but so is the assurance of His love, peace, and comfort. Trust Him, the path you are on is leading you somewhere. Let it lead you closer to Jesus and into the center of His will for your life!
Isaiah 26:3 (NKJ) You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.
Hebrews 10:7 (NLT) Then I said, Look, I have come to do your will, O God—as is written about me in the Scriptures.
Psalm 23:1-4 (NLT) The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows;
He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
