Returning to the Image of God
Genesis 1:27 (NLT) So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
We were originally created in the image of God. As I ponder that…its mind blowing! How incredible would it be to reflect Him in such perfect form, that when people look at us they can get an accurate representation of the image of God. They would experience His tender mercy, extravagant love, wisdom, strength, knowledge, power, mercy and grace…through us!
Unfortunately, sin happened and it tainted our portrayal of who our God really is. Life has a way of reshaping our nature and character. Pain, disappointment, rejection and anger has clouded the mirror and distorted the reflection.
Though sin separated us from God, the cross reestablished our relationship and placed us in right standing. Salvation and repentance brings us into the family of Christ, but it’s not an instant character fix. Unfortunately, many are so satisfied with the experience that they stop there and never become all they were created to be…and that’s a perfect reflection of the image of God. I don’t know about you, but I have not yet achieved it, but the mere fact that the Word says that I was created in His image is proof positive that it’s not only attainable, it’s what He desired at our conception!
So, how do we get from what we are currently seeing reflected in the mirror, to what we were designed to become? We must be cleansed by being submerged in God’s Word and gloriously transfigured by His presence, as we draw closer and closer to Him. We can not be satisfied with anything less than a complete transformation that brings Him incredible glory and draws all men unto Jesus!!
Get hungry!! Let His Word and presence become your passion and desire!! Nothing less can change you and bring change to those around you!! As His image is fully revealed in His children…it will reform the world!
2 Corinthians 3:18 (TPT) We can all draw close to him with the veil removed from our faces. And with no veil we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus. We are being transfigured into his very image as we move from one brighter level of glory to another. And this glorious transfiguration comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Ephesians 5:26 (NLT) To make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s Word.
