I Choose Victory!

John 16:33 (TPT) “And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me. For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!”

I’m so encouraged when I read this scripture. I’m reminded that I must take time to rest in Jesus and grab ahold of the peace He has placed in me. If my thoughts begin to wage war, I know I must go back to that place of peace in Him and there I will find rest and confidence. Regardless of the chaos that occurs throughout our world, we are set apart and can live in this peace because of Him. Even though we experience trouble and sorrows, we can still live victorious because Jesus has already conquered the world.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (AMPC) “Be strong, courageous, and firm; fear not nor be in terror before them, for it is the Lord your God Who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you.”

We can often be disappointed by other people, even those closest to us and it hurts the worst because we love them and care deeply about them. The good news is when we trust in Jesus, we are never disappointed to let down. Having complete confidence in the One that gave His life for us is our key to living in a place of peace and rest.

My family and I were recently stranded on a lake in Illinois because the battery to our boat died, or so we thought. After countless phone calls to the local towing company, marina, and Army Corp of Engineers, we finally had rescuers arrive more than 2 hours after the first call for help. Unfortunately, the park rangers got the rope wrapped in the propeller and then their engine failed to restart. On the outside it looked pretty hopeless, we had the lake to ourselves since kids already went back to school in Illinois. All I could do was laugh. Fear never entered my mind, just joy. I knew God would get us on dry land at some point, we weren't in danger. But the enemy will do many things in the midst of trouble to get us distracted. This happened on a Friday afternoon and we needed to get home and get ready for church. I told my husband he must have a powerful message prepared if the enemy is trying this hard to keep us away. Once the 2nd rescue boat came along (followed by another series of mishaps), we were finally being slowly pulled to shore and were on dry land 3 hours after that initial phone call for help.

This was a perfect opportunity to allow fear and worry to settle in but we chose peace, joy and rest while in the boat on that hot August day. You get to choose how to respond to your troubles, trials and crises. Do you want to live in victory or defeat?

Deuteronomy 20:4 (NLT) For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!
