The Power of the Anointing

The anointing can be described in many ways. In the Greek "chrisma" means anointing or unction. Webster defines anointing like this: to put on oil, as in consecrating, set apart as holy. Having an anointing is like putting on the Holy Spirit - allowing His oil to be poured upon you. Oil is greasy and hard to get off once it's on you. If a motor runs out of oil, it burns up!

Today, Christians are running full speed without any oil. They are burning up and burning out. Let the anointing oil of God flow from Heaven! RT Kendall explains it like this: the anointing is what enables your gift to flow with ease, it's the conscious approval of God. Amen!

The anointing is the power of the Spirit, it is a spiritual resource that's made available upon demand. The anointing is there for you to fulfill your assignment and maximize your potential. You are anointed by God to use your gifts with ease. The anointing breaks the yoke of bondage off your neck!

Isaiah 10:27 (TPT) In that day the Lord will remove the heavy burden from your shoulders and break off the yoke of bondage from your necks because of the heavy anointing upon you!

The heavy anointing upon you will break the yoke of bondage from your neck. Have you seen, in person or pictures, oxen pulling heavy loads behind them with the yoke around their necks? The weight of the oxen could be close to 6,000 pounds and they can pull that same amount of weight. Think of how strong the yoke is that is binding them to their load. When we are bound by the weight of sin, the anointing is even heavier and can break those chains from our lives. The power of God is stronger than the power of the enemy and the sin that binds you! As you yield to the Holy Spirit, you will be completely set free.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Jesus tells us to take His yoke upon us, meaning let’s be tied up to Jesus because He is humble, gentle and will give us rest. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. This is a completely different picture than the oxen carrying a heavy burden with the yoke around their necks. This is a beautiful picture of Jesus taking care of us and loving us with His gentle heart. When we cast our cares upon the Lord, we are moving the weight and burdens of the world from our shoulders to the foot of the cross. The cross is where we see God’s amazing love for sinners and the price He gave to see us free from the bondage of sin. Because of the cross, we no longer have to live as slaves to sin, but we can live free in Christ who gave Himself for us.

This is the power of the anointing! There is no reason to live in fear or burdened by the weight of the world, come to Jesus and find your rest.
