What on Earth are You Thinking?
Seriously, what consumes your thoughts? Drives your passion? Stirs your spirit like nothing else? Hopefully it’s the pursuit of the Lord. We should never stop trying to seek God’s presence nor drawing closer to Him! I believe the key to unlocking all that God has for you is to simply know Him Better. Think about it. Why would God describe King David as a man after his own heart if the Father didn’t mean David never tried stopping to know Him better.
Acts 13:22 (VOICE) After God moved Saul aside, He made David king in his place. God had this to say about David: “I have found David, son of Jesse, to be a man after My own heart. He’s the kind of king who will rule in ways that please Me.”
Here was a man who was far from perfect, who made plenty of mistakes, and committed some heavy sins. Sound like anyone you know? We are all far from perfect and we will never be…but if we try to emulate the walk of Christ! This starts with doing the things God asks of us. Love Him, obey Him, repent we when fall. But always get back up and start over again. How many people in your life will forgive your blunders over and over? I for one, do not know one. But God will!
Psalm 103:3-5 (MSG)
He forgives your sins—every one. He heals your diseases—every one. He redeems you from hell—saves your life! He crowns you with love and mercy—a paradise crown. He wraps you in goodness—beauty eternal. He renews your youth—you’re always young in his presence.
Life is hard, and we have many challenges. If we accept the facts that our lives are short, and Heaven is for eternity, then the pursuit of God should be our goal. We cannot rely on someone to do this for us. In other words, going to church once a week, or saying a prayer when we need help is not going to cut it. These things are important but building that relationship with the Creator of all, requires spending the time to know Him.
Genesis 32:27-28 (MSG) The man said, “What’s your name?” He answered, “Jacob.” The man said, “But no longer. Your name is no longer Jacob. From now on it’s Israel (God-Wrestler); you’ve wrestled with God and you’ve come through.”
You can accomplish this by reading the Bible, worshiping the Lord, praising Him often, listening to messages from people of faith. Finding a trusted man/woman of God who truly has a love of Jesus and teaches how the relationship Christ brings is edifying to your soul. The more we learn the more we grow.
We were made not to walk this journey all alone.
So, Father, make us one.
Like you and the Son are one,
With one mind and one heart, joined together.
When we combine the things previously mentioned, our ability to know the Father better will be so much easier. There’s nothing in this world that can give you the peace you need and the love that’s waiting for you like a relationship with the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Pursue that and find the heart of the Father like never before. Who knows, maybe the angels in Heaven will describe you too as the one after God’s own heart. Now that’s something to be remembered by!
