The Simplicity of Drawing Closer to Jesus

I think sometimes we make seeking a deeper relationship with God sound so difficult that many people think it's too much work and basically unattainable. As I regularly come home from a busy and sometimes stressful day, I spend a little time enjoying my husband's company and though there's no other person I'd rather be with I can't wait to crawl onto my Father's lap.

You may wonder how to pray eloquent prayers to touch His heart, but that's not what He's looking for. As I lay on my bed looking intently at Him (giving Him my full attention) I repent of selfishness and anything else in my life that needs to be eliminated. I don't want to hold on to anything including my time, so I surrender more of myself to Him, but ask for His help in doing it. I spend a little time thanking Him for all that He's done for me and begin to weep as I think of His mercy and love. I share with Him the things that are on my heart, then I ask if I can crawl up under His wing and feel the warmth and protection of His embrace for a little while. I just lay there...in His presence and as always, I'm amazed as I feel Him close to me and I know I'm safe in His arms. No words need to be spoken as His love refuels me and gives me the strength to go on. I then spend a little time searching scriptures and reading His Word. Nothing fancy just spending time hanging out with my closest friend.

It's a relationship and like any other, we just need to spend some time together to grow closer. As you get to know Him better, you'll fall deeper and deeper in love with Jesus and a relationship you once thought was work will become your greatest pleasure.

Psalm 100:4 (KJV) Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.

Psalm 91:4 (NLT) He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

James 4:8 (ESV) Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

John 15:15 (NLT) I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.

Matthew 3:8 (NLT) Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.
