Hidden in Our Hearts

1 John 1:5-7 (NLT) This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

As we live in communion with God we live in the light and any darkness in our lives becomes exposed. Many choose not to live in the light because they don't want to face the darkness that surrounds them. It can be anything from heavy drug addiction to gossip to adultery to a multitude of lies. If we accept Jesus then we must live according to His Word for He is the Word made flesh. We must seek Him more and more and study His word so it is hidden in our hearts.

Psalm 119:9-11 (NLT) How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

To hide something in your heart it must be close to you, as you study the scriptures and ask God to reveal Himself to you, it will sink down like seed going into good ground. Allow that seed to remain rooted in the Word and allow it to flourish. Know the Word for yourself and do not rely on man to feed you. Remain pure and holy before the Lord, do not live in sin and disobey His commands. Live for Jesus, He died for you and shed blood for you. If you think about what you want to accomplish in this life, does it involve having an impact on eternity? Is it life-changing for others? Or is it just self-gratification and accumulation of things that you may pass on to a few family members and then what? Renew your mind daily and think about making an eternal impact rather than a temporary gain or pleasure. Fill your mind with the Word and allow the Holy Spirit to transform the way you think and the way you live. Jesus is worth it!

Romans 12:2 (VOICE) Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete.

Joshua 1:8 (VOICE) Let the words from the book of the law be always on your lips. Meditate on them day and night so that you may be careful to live by all that is written in it. If you do, as you make your way through this world, you will prosper and always find success.
