Your Deepest Thoughts

Luke 2:34-35 (NLT) Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, the baby’s mother, “This child is destined to cause many in Israel to fall, and many others to rise. He has been sent as a sign from God, but many will oppose him. As a result, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your very soul.”

The deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed because of Jesus. When people are confronted with the reality of the cross, the truth of who Jesus is and why He came, they are confronted with their own sins - pride, jealousy, rage, selfishness and others. Many are offended at the name of Jesus - the name that heals, saves and delivers - because they are so comfortable in their sin, they choose to avoid the Truth. Mary knew there would be great suffering ahead but she trusted God with her life and the life of her Son. From the joy of a virgin birth to the pleasures of motherhood to the deep agony of seeing her Son crucified to the incredible miracle of the resurrection, she went through such tragedy yet she knew her Son was destined for something so much greater in life. Jesus was not just a cute baby or a good carpenter, He was the Son of God - the One who chose us and chose to dwell among us to suffer with us - many fell and many rose because of Jesus. The one who came and defeated death and the grave!

Simeon was exactly right - many will oppose Jesus because the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. Which poses the question - what's in your heart today? Do you dwell on the negative all day or do you choose to focus on the positive in every situation? Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Selah.

Matthew 12:34-35 (TPT) But you who are known as the Pharisees are rotten to the core! You’ve been poisoned by the nature of a venomous snake. How can your words be good and trustworthy if you are rotten within? For what has been stored up in your hearts will be heard in the overflow of your words! “When virtue is stored within, the hearts of good and upright people will produce good fruit. But when evil is hidden within, those who are evil will produce evil fruit.

Luke 6:45 (NLT) A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.
