God Will Fight For You

Exodus 14:14 (MSG) God will fight the battle for you. And you? You keep your mouths shut!

Ouch! This scripture pulls me in 2 ways: the first half gives me peace and assurance that God will fight for me, it reminds me that He is greater and His ways are always best; the second half really puts me in my place and causes my flesh to back down, it reminds me that when God is fighting for me, I have to allow Him to do all of the work. It is not up to me to run my mouth about the situation. I have to keep my mouth shut and let God do what He does.

When we pray and ask God to help us, do we really mean it? Or do we just pray for a rescue while trying to do everything on our own, then whine and complain that God didn't come through? We have to take the entire scripture in its context, we aren't allowed to pick and choose which verses we want to live by and ignore the ones that cause any type of discomfort. The scriptures that make us uncomfortable, like the ones about prayer and fasting, are the ones that will cause us to grow the most. If you really want to get serious about living for Jesus, take His word for what it is and stop trying to manipulate His Word to your lifestyle. We cannot grow up eating dessert all the time. We need some meat to make us strong and then we can stand up with confidence, knowing the enemy is defeated and no matter what comes our way, we are victorious because we have been obedient to His will. Once we get over the mistakes of our past and allow the Holy Spirit to comfort us, we can begin healing; nothing this world has to offer will ever truly satisfy us. Stay strong in the Lord and allow Him to work through you.

Galatians 2:20 (MSG) Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that.

James 4:7-10 (MSG) So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet.
