Dying to Self
Philippians 2:3-4 (TPT) Be free from pride-filled opinions, for they will only harm your cherished unity. Don’t allow self-promotion to hide in your hearts, but in authentic humility put others first and view others as more important than yourselves. Abandon every display of selfishness. Possess a greater concern for what matters to others instead of your own interests.
I'm sure we all have concerns for what matters to us and our loved ones. We likely are even concerned about what matters to others. But can we truly say we are putting the concerns of others above our own? Ouch…
God loves when we work together, thinking so highly of ourselves harms our unity. Where there is unity God commands a blessing.
Psalm 133:1,3 (NKJV) Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing—Life forevermore.
If we are dying to our flesh daily, then we are being transformed into the image of God more and more, just as we were created to be. Our flesh lies to us as our spirit is crying out for Jesus. Deny your flesh - say yes to the Spirit! Pray in the Spirit always as this will build your faith.
Jude 1:20 (TPT) But you, my delightfully loved friends, constantly and progressively build yourselves up on the foundation of your most holy faith by praying every moment in the Spirit.
We are all a work in progress or "under construction" if you will, and as we spend time in the secret place, we are getting to know more about our amazing Father. We are progressively building ourselves up in our faith. This is all through a constant relationship with Jesus. It cannot thrive on 2 hours a week or once a month or on Christmas and Easter. We must continue to fill ourselves up with more and more of Him because we are supposed to be pouring out throughout our week helping others.
Dying to our flesh isn't a fun and exciting topic for many, they enjoy being lukewarm and are stuck in complacency. Do not fall for this trap and become spiritually sluggish! It's from the enemy, in attempt to get you away from God. Stir yourself up - seek God's face like never before. Pursue righteousness in your lifestyle, stand up for the Gospel, and tell of your testimony!
Hebrews 6:10-12 (AMP) For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown for His name in ministering to [the needs of] the saints (God’s people), as you do. And we desire for each one of you to show the same diligence [all the way through] so as to realize and enjoy the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you will not be [spiritually] sluggish, but [will instead be] imitators of those who through faith [lean on God with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in His power] and by patient endurance [even when suffering] are [now] inheriting the promises.
