Get Ready!
1 Peter 1:13-16 (VOICE) So get yourselves ready, prepare your minds to act, control yourselves, and look forward in hope as you focus on the grace that comes when Jesus the Anointed returns and is completely revealed to you. Be like obedient children as you put aside the desires you used to pursue when you didn’t know better. Since the One who called you is holy, be holy in all you do. For the Scripture says, “You are to be holy, for I am holy.”
Get ready, get ready, get ready! These two simple words are full of impact. When a bride is getting ready for her groom she does not roll out of bed and walk down the aisle in her pajamas with messy hair. No, she spends months preparing for that special day. Envisioning what she will wear, how her makeup will be, to put her hair up or leave it down, etc. Planning ahead for the things we need to do in life is great. I have a list of tasks to complete every. single. day. Checking them off as they are completed feels great and I would encourage everyone to write down a list of things they need to do. This verse is telling us to prepare our minds to act, control ourselves (watch out now) and look forward (not behind you in your past) in hope as you FOCUS on the grace of God.
How hard it can be to just focus sometimes. When we lose our focus is when things can go disarray. We must control our thought-life and keep our focus on Jesus. When He is central to all we do, everything will be in order. We are to be holy as He is holy. We can no longer get away with living the lives we used to live prior to knowing Jesus. Because now we know better - and if we have a tendency to "forget" then praise God we have the scriptures in our hand with the touch of a button or the click of a mouse. My words for you today are to Get Ready - Focus - Be Holy.
Proverbs 4:23-27 (NLT) Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.
